How to start a t-Shirt business ( part II )

Source : A Touch of Business.com

Standing out in the crowd

Because it's become so easy to start up a t-shirt business in the 'aughts, the competition (especially online) is extremely fierce. So much so that very few people are able to make a full-time living with either t-shirt design or sales.

There are several things a new t-shirt business can do to make success more likely. For instance, it's always a good idea to make a real effort to get hip to what your target demographic really is wearing these days – don't guess.

Furthermore, you're far more likely to make a quick impact by focusing on a very particular market segment. It's not enough to market your t-shirt to “young people.” You'd do better to focus on a very specific niche market such as “young people with motor scooters” or “Irish-American skateboarders.”

You can come up with designs yourself or partner with local artists to share the profits. Even if you don't have any talent with design software or drawing, you can make designs that feature words only.

Marketing for success

Though competitive, many people are able to make a nice side-income from t-shirt business opportunities. Many who do so eventually branch out into other items of apparel. For instance, if you've invested in screen-printing equipment, you can pay the extra for large-format equipment that allows you to make banners and signs.

The only thing holding you back is a marketing effort. All t-shirt business models should include quite a few free-samples and plenty of innovative give-aways to get people to pay attention. Don't be afraid to hit the pavements and get your t-shirts on as many backs as possible. Never be afraid to hand out your cards.

How to start a t-Shirt business (Part I )

Source : A Touch of Business.com

Starting a t-Shirt business could be a great way to merge creativity and retail sales.
Just about everyone has a favorite t-shirt. Business options that target a t-shirt niche can expand very quickly with the right marketing, materials and design.

The t-shirt business has really opened up in recent years. People buying t-shirts in record numbers – heck, they're even buying t-shirts for their dogs. But, Internet has made it possible for just about anyone to make their ideas come to life and walk out the virtual door in 100% cotton.

Letting others do the work for you

One of the biggest innovations in the t-shirt business is the service provided by companies such as CafePress. All you need to provide is the design. Such online companies will print the t-shirt for you on-demand whenever one is ordered.

The advantage to this is that your t-shirt business start-up cost is essentially nothing when using an online service. You don't even have to make a web site of your own to conduct business online. Most sites provide web-space templates that you can modify as your virtual store.

Be careful to read the agreements very carefully. Some services will actually retain the rights to your artwork in exchange for using their service. If you do have a break-away hit, this can end in heartache.

Sending the shirts out for printing

Another option is to use a professional screen-printer to do the work for you. This is an especially good option if you'll be doing single color line drawings or words on a variety of shirt colors Full-color printing with a screen-printer is very expensive and is usually only suitable for high-end concerts where people won't mind paying upwards of $50 per shirt. This simply isn't an option for the vast majority of startup t-shirt businesses.

Apparel print shops are available in most urban areas. You may also order the shirts online and have them shipped to you for on-site retail sales. Many t-shirt business models will involve having the merchandise drop-shipped directly to the customer. Often, the print shop will include your own tag or label, for a small fee.

Heat transfer and Flock lettering

A viable niche market for a t-shirt business is the application of full-color photographs to t-shirts and other clothing or apparel items. Like the low-end consumer kits that come with some printers, these are printed on a normal ink-jet printer that is outfitted with water-resistant inks that hold up to washing.

Unlike home kits, you cannot get professional results from using an iron for the transfer – you'll need a professional heat-press for your t-shirt business. You'll also want to make sure you have suitable equipment for trimming around the designs, especially with dark colored shirts. Otherwise, the results won't look very professional.

Flock lettering is the trade-name of the velvety heat-transferred numbers and letters that have graced recreation-league t-shirts since the 1970s. As long as they're applied correctly and perfectly straight, these look very professional without a lot of equipment or training.

Stress Benefits for Your Performance

Too much stress can indeed give a negative health effects, such as weight gain, or depression. However, we too often focus on how to cope with stress in work, relationships with spouse, or in families, so that eventually the stress that it is perfectly normal. As long as we live, we have to deal with that stress.

However, if you look at stress differently, it would actually make us healthier, happier, and encourages us to become better. Want to know why? Let us refer to the explanation of some of these experts.

1. More creative. You never hear people who feel able to work better when under pressure? Generally they are people who work in a creative field. According Larina Kase, Ph.D., a psychologist in Pennsylvania, and author of The Confident Leader: How the Most Successful People Go from Effective Exceptional to, this is not just a suggestion.

"If our minds are really calm and relaxed, there is no reason to look at things differently. We tend to feel there is increased stress when we go through the new road, because the changes often associated with the new pressure. Your creative output is frightening because it is different for you, and you do not know how other people respond, "he said.

2. Good for the immune system. The research shows that stress will benefit the immune system, because it raises the resistance mechanisms of us.

"Stress that the coming of a sudden can help the immune system," says Mark Goulston, MD, clinical psychiatrist and author of Get Out of Your Own Way: Overcoming Self-defeating Behavior.

When cortisol (stress hormone) is released, it was to increase the immunity of the body. But despite the stress makes the body strong, vibrant, and even healthy, too much stress can also make excessive cortisol. The excess stress hormones can cause obesity in the abdomen. "Obesity in the central part is often associated with the development of cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus type 2, and brain disease," said Goulston.

3. Create a prima body. Lifting weights, running, or riding a stationary bike for 45 minutes is a form of stress on the body. However, the good kind of stress, according to the opinion of Jessica Matthews, MS, a personal trainer who is also education coordinator for the American Council on Exercise (ACE).

"Stress resulting from the exercise level is quite healthy, and gives some positive effects," he said. "From the physiological perspective, the demands imposed on the body during exercise helped her become more efficient in completing daily activities."

Regular exercise also can reduce stress hormone levels in the body, and simultaneously increase the levels of endorphins, creating a comfortable sensation. Research also shows that exercise itself can make us resistant to stress.

4. Able to solve problems. When faced with a dilemma, or need to make major decisions, stress plays illuminate our values. Dr. Kase suggests to listen to what you want delivered by the stress that to us.

"Research shows that at least a portion ktia likely when using our courage," he said. However, excessive worry can sometimes backfire. "It would be hard to hear your intuition when you are in a cycle of anxiety and stress, so give some time to think. Roads first, a deep sleep, or eat together. "

5. Making children feel safe. According to experts, women who feel stressed out tend to be more protective of her. For example, when it was crowded news child abduction, of course you will be providing more supervision for your child, right?

Research from Johns Hopkins University states that children of mothers who showed improvement of the hormone cortisol during pregnancy will be more developed than children of mothers who are not so depressed. But, of course, mothers who are too stressed also will not provide a good influence for their children. A little stress is normal and natural course.

"If stress can increase your alertness, that's better," says Dr. Goulston. However, caution must also not until you are too cautious, because it can cause you to fragile and rigid. This was mentioned can cause impulsive behavior.

6. Salary increases. The pressure was too heavy on the job certainly is not healthy. But the kind of stress that makes you stronger in a professional environment can provide a good influence for your career.

"The degree of stress and anxiety will keep you energized, focused, and motivated," says Dr. Kase. "Without the stress that enough, you're probably not going to give maximum effort, and you tend to make errors. When you're too comfortable, it will be a sign that you're not pushing yourself out of your comfort zone and take risks necessary to develop your career, such as doing marketing for yourself, or ask for promotion. "

Again, too much stress will also not good. You can reduce the ability to look at innovative solutions, and takes energy and efficiency.

Steve Jobs and Apple Computer

Source : A Touch of Business.com

Before, only those who were loyal to their Apple Computer PCs were aware of who Steve Jobs was.

Nowadays, nearly everybody knows him thanks to that phenomenon called the iPod.

Steve Jobs and Apple Computer have had a love-hate relationship even ending at one time with Jobs being booted from the firm only to return in 1996 and completely turn the company around and back to profitability.

This achievement definitely merits Steve Jobs to be included in America's greatest business leader list.

Steve Jobs ' Beginnings Steve Jobs was born to a Syrian father and an American mother, who gave him up for adoption immediately after he was born. He was adopted by Paul and Clara Jobs of California and spent his 'schooling days' in Cupertino, CA, where he often went to the after-school lectures of the Hewlett-Packard Company. Not surprisingly, he was later hired by HP and worked with Stephen Wozniak.

Steve Jobs' First 'Business Deal'

In the mid-1970's, Jobs, then working at Atari, was approached by its founder Nolan Bushnell and offered $100 for every chip that he can reduce for a new circuit board for the game Breakout. He made a deal with Wozniak to share the bonus 50 50. Wozniak amazed everybody by reducing the number of chips by 50. His 'bonus'? $250... Jobs wasn't exactly truthful; he told Wozniak that Artari only gave them a $500 bonus (instead of the $5000 he received).

Steve Jobs and Apple Computer

In 1976, Jobs founded Apple Computer with Wozniak after he saw a computer the latter designed for himself. The company's first product was called the Apple I. The next product was aptly called Apple II and it became such a hit that Apple II is credited to be the best selling computer in the 1970s and early 1980s.

In 1984, the firm introduced the Macintosh, which was the first commercially successful computer with a graphical user interface. It was so successful that Apple abandoned further developments on Apple II.

Alas, not all was smooth sailing. An internal power struggle in Apple ended with Jobs being stripped of his duties in 1985 and so he left the company and founded NeXT Computer. NeXT was not an instant hit but it reflected Jobs' perfectionist side that it garnered its own following.

In 1993, it would transition into a software development firm. Meanwhile, Apple Computer has been struggling and in 1996, it bough NeXT for US$402 million, bringing Jobs back at the helm of the firm he founded. Apple Computer has since then regained its foothold in the computers and electronics industry and has even successfully branched out into the portable music business with the iPod MP3 player, iTunes digital music software and the iTunes Music Store.

Qualified connection to Build Teamwork

By : Kompas.com

In a company that is more than 50-year-old, growing fast, and consists of thousands of workers, appeared discourse on programs to strengthen the team work. The funny thing was actually happening on the "ring I",-frontman frontman organization. In fact, he should-he was already versed in the handle of his team to do the "work team" it, without needing to be reminded and taught again. It sounds strange, but this is reality.

Divisions that work under them showed symptoms of "silo", is not going to know something else and there was no intention to coordinate with one another. In fact, just inform the change was very difficult for each department. Is it weird about this? Is this a symptom that amazing?

Many companies, when going into the review and honest attempt to observe the actions, attitudes, and behavior, it must be admitted that takes extra effort and consistent hard work to garner a solid team. No wonder, there are also voices saying that some ministers in the cabinet did not communicate well with each other. Funny thing is, many people, when made aware that the lack of communication within the team, tend to defend themselves. They often do not realize, even presenting examples of how a routine meeting has been running on his team, face to face and email communication is intensive and each other did not reject cooperation. So where is the mistake, why teamwork can be in the doldrums?

Creating chemistry
Do not close because of lack of teamwork chemistry between the members? Do we not believe that we can create connections with others and dispensing of chemistry in our daily life in the workplace? The old adage says, "There are no misunderstandings; there are only failures to Communicate."

From this we realize that we really can not dispute the bad chemistry between a group of people if we are not seriously trying to make a quality connection.

We waste a lot of opportunities to build connections, whether it's time to meet in the elevator, pass on the street, spoken in the morning, even when it comes to in-depth discussions to solve problems, discuss the "gray areas" or communicates the commitment needed to be removed. Let alone people who are new in the team, we are often absent even establishing a connection with people who have lived and worked together for many years.

Can we show appreciation without an inflated praise, but more on the effort to understand the other person and try to dig up his point. Many people feel awkward to foster close relationships in the workplace, even thought it was only necessary in the informal relationships and familial relationships outside the business. Efforts to approach other people are sometimes judged only required by the salesmen and public relations. There's also assume that this is an activity that leads to things that are feminine. In fact, a lot of potential and opportunity that we can achieve the purpose for the sake of togetherness, as long as we want a little effort to build connections with each other.

Clarity
We definitely can feel when the spirit of the individual within the team to relax. Many people do not understand why personnel are very clever and dedicated, can suddenly lose the spirit of sharing information, undisciplined, lazy to brainstorm and if not stopped thinking about self-interest. An employee who was in that situation commented, "If the team, one person with another not clear about standards of quality and what to do, and will run away sasaran group, how we will menyerahkan sepenuhnya minds and hearts to the team?"

Lack of clarity about the principles and direction of the company or institution, it often causes the spirit of the group became lax. Especially when the boss was mencla-mencle, not promote coordination, even a little pitting. One can only be "selfless" if the goals of the organization is very "clear". That is why we see the decline in team morale at a company that is being shaken and did not clarify the circumstances in times of crisis. Conversely, an organization that aims to clear, can easily enhance teamwork and even create exciting competition between the groups, both in activities related to the substance of the business and outside it.

When individuals are connected to each other through mutual trust and clear against the group and organizational goals, certainly do not need a huge energy to push the team to achieve best performance. In fact, we are not to worry to flip through or cut-off individuals in the team, because teams automatically have the power to quickly to reorganize his back.

Trik Tepat Karier Meleset

By : Kompas.com

Peningkatan karier setiap orang memang sangat berbeda satu sama lain.

Interview Preparation - Interview or Interrogation.

Anyone who has suffered through a bad interview experience may feel that it was the closest thing to an interrogation they have ever endured.

This is a misconception and while we sympathize with any individuals who have left an interview feeling depressed, cheer up, you were unfortunate, it is not the norm believe us.

Do not allow an interviewer to conduct a one-way process, if you do, without doubt it will feel like an interrogation. This is a fundamental error, which will leave you squirming in your chair as you await the end to come.

It is easy to understand how candidates feel intimidated; it appears that the interviewer holds all the cards. Let’s face it they are in control at the outset sitting at their desk holding your resume as though they have all the right answers to the questions, the layout of the room and their handling of the situation. It is easy to feel at a disadvantage.

To turn that disadvantage to your benefit, behave in a considerate and courteous manner, arrive on time and observe basic courtesies such as making eye contact and giving the interviewer a firm handshake. Do not slouch into your chair and attempt to become invisible, sit up straight, smile warmly and answer questions with confidence and a positive attitude.

Don’t allow yourself to feel threatened or intimidated in anyway for this will quickly become evident. Take control of your part of the process and behave with consideration, courtesy and professionalism.

Be careful though, you may find yourself enjoying the experience!

Behavioral Interviews

More and more these days, employers are implementing behavioral interviews to screen potential employees. Behavioral interviews are quite different from the straightforward methods used in traditional interviews. What exactly is a behavioral interview?

Behavioral interviews are defined as interviews in which an employer chooses an applicant based on his or her behavior in the past. The main objective of the employer is to discover how you have acted in past employment related situations. Employers who use this interview method firmly believe that your past effects how you will handle present and future situations.

Differences between Behavioral and Traditional Interviews

There was one person that once said, "An interview is an interview!" This may be true in some instances; behavioral interviews differ greatly from traditional interviews. First of all traditional interviews usually are conducted by asking straightforward questions such as: "How many years did you work at your previous company?" or "What was the office atmosphere like?" And secondly, the questions asked usually center around your actual working experience.

Behavioral interview questions on the other hand focus on how you behaved in a particular situation in your past working experience. To clarify, here are a few example questions that may be asked during a behavioral interview session.

Please describe a situation when you felt particularly stressed, and how you handled the situation.

Give me an example of a time you had to use your logical and reasoning abilities to solve a certain problem that arose. What was the outcome?

In times past, when certain stressful situations arise how did you handle yourself?

How well have you worked under pressure?

How do you handle workmates who are difficult to work with?

When you were faced with a troublesome issue, which approach did you take in order to deal with the issue? What was the outcome?

You can see from the above questions that these are truly different from traditional interview questions. Behavioral questions tend to be more "probing". The potential employers, by your answers, acquire a better understanding of the type of person you are on the inside. Most employers who use behavioral interviews use them solely for the purpose of selecting those whose personality is best suited for their company. And that may not be the most educated or previously highest paid applicant either.

What Makes Bill Gates Such an Extraordinary Business Man?

Source : A Touch of Business.com

Who has not heard of Microsoft Corporation? It is a name that has revolutionized business and just about every aspect of our lives that many believe Bill Gates, co-founder, Chairman, and Chief Software Architect of the world's biggest software firm to be the greatest business leader of this generation.

Although this claim may be refuted by many, there is no denying the fact that Bill Gates is a fixture that simply cannot be erased in the history of international business.

Bill Gates - You Either Love Him or Hate Him

Bill Gates' story is not a 'rags to riches' fairytale. Instead, it is a great example of what one can do with the talents that he has within him. Gates was born to affluent parents and showed excellence in school.

At an early age, he already displayed his expertise in the fields of math and science. It is safe to say that Gates breezed through his primary education and in 1973, he enrolled in Harvard University to pursue a Bachelors of Science in Computer Science degree. It is at Harvard where he met Steve Ballmer, his future business partner.

At Harvard, Gates, together with Paul Allen and Monte Davidoff, co-wrote Altair BASIC for the Altair 8800. After this, Gates dropped out of Harvard to pursue a career in software development instead.

In 1975, Gates called Micro Instrumentation and Telemetry Systems (MITS) to inform them that his group has developed a version of the programming language BASIC for their new microcomputer's platform.

Although this was not true, Gates and Allen were able to come up with the said version after only eight weeks and MITS ended up buying the rights for the said programming language! This clearly shows Gates confidence in himself and his ability. At this point, Gates and Allen left Harvard to establish Micro-Soft (later changed to Microsoft Corporation) and the rest as they say is history.

As a business leader, many find themselves having to decide whether Gates has been 'ethical' in his business practices or not. Why?

The growth of Microsoft is largely due to the fact that Gates ensured that most computers that shipped out came with Microsoft software pre-installed, thereby 'killing' any desire by consumers to purchase any other type of software.

Due to this, Gates Microsoft has also been the subject of various antitrust litigations over the years. So what do you think? Is Gates the greatest business leader of our time or just a very conniving one? Whatever one thinks, one thing is for sure, the name Bill Gates will continue to resonate in the field of business.

Tips Provide Feedback

By : RNO

One of the things there will always be in your agenda as a leader is to provide feedback or input to the members of your team. Input provided would be constructive or building, with a view to improving performance and productivity of subordinates. Feedback is considered important because of its function as a guidance and a motivator. Without the input of employees often find it difficult to grow, because there is no assessment of his performance over the years. Can be regarded as work performance thus far of the results you expect. If allowed to drag on not only performance and the performance is still in place even threatened to worsen, but also affects the productivity of the team you lead.

Not easy to give feedback. Submission is not careful could be regarded as a criticism personally attacked. Rather than want to improve performance, it actually makes employees discouraged or lose respect for you as the leader.

Delivering constructive feedback and clearly it requires skill and courage. Moreover we live in a culture that is often reluctant to submit entries. "Fear offended" that may exist in your mind. But if this is done successfully, the result will be satisfying and provide a positive impact.

Here are some tips that can help you in providing feedback to team members effectively and efficiently.

1. Immediately.
Give feedback immediately after you feel the results or performance of works not in accordance with the expectations or standards or other issues that do not fit with corporate culture and even work ethic. Even though you feel shy and reluctant to do it, do not wait until their performance was deteriorating. Waiting means allowing your employees to work without guidance and without the parameters of the work.

2. Take care of their honor.
Giving feedback is totally different from giving a compliment, although both are aimed at, ie, spur employees to improve performance. If praising employees will be better done in front of other colleagues, giving feedback should not be done in public, especially when delivered could be taken as criticism. Speak politely and stimulate the employee to also issue an opinion. Do not use words that could be interpreted as an 'attack' legally privileged. You want to get rid of bad performance, it's not personal.

3. Do not forget to praise.
Remember that not all employees do not work as expected or below standard. Surely there is one thing he could do satisfactorily. Show that you appreciate their work to others by giving praise before submit feedback. Besides helping to improve self-confidence, this will help to further open up to receive input from you.

4. Be specific.
Avoid conversations swirling before getting into the things that must be repaired. Specify clearly what must be repaired and pass your suggestions to overcome this. Convey clearly tips, techniques and advice relevant and detailed. Give illustrations and examples when necessary. For example, customs employees who are always late to report on the grounds that too much responsibility. Suggest to divide the daily routine in a smaller deadlines and apply personal targets. Remember to focus on solutions, not on the employee personally.

5. Discuss the plan.
Although you've given advice, tips and techniques, and convey your expectations to the employee, still discussing plans and targets to improve performance. This would give them a sense of confidence because of their opinions valued. Thus, their respect for you also will remain intact. Agree upon a target date for improvement to be achieved. Although you want to change and improvement happen as quickly as possible but listen targets the employees themselves. This will give a great feeling of responsibility because the employee is taking part in decisions to improve their working. To remember is that although they already disclose the target of change, the decision to continue to apply your initial strategy or a compromise is in your hands.

Using Career Success Stories in Interviews and Networking

by Frank Traditi

Companies hire you based on your ability to demonstrate what you can do for them and how you can solve their problems. While a hiring manager expects you to have all of the functional skills necessary for the job, they are much more interested in how you can use your special abilities to handle the challenges given to you if you were in the job. The big question is how do you demonstrate this ability in an interview when they haven't seen you at work yet? The most effective method is to tell a story.

Often during interviews you'll get the opportunity to highlight your unique talents. A very effective way to do this is to introduce your career success stories about how you overcame significant challenges. You may have suggested a creative idea to handle an employee performance problem. Maybe you instituted a step-by-step process to reduce customer complaints. Perhaps your persistence paid off to close a multi-year contract with the largest customer the company has ever seen.

All of these actions resulted in great accomplishments throughout your career. Now you get the chance to tell the story of how you did it. To help you tell your story in the most convincing way, you need a simple format to work from. Here's an easy, three-step process to put the pieces together for your success stories when you get the opportunity to tell them.

1. Describe the problem or opportunity you faced.

Here you should describe the situation you were up against. It may have been a special project that you were assigned or a highly volatile customer issue. Perhaps it was an aggressive sales objective never attempted before. You're setting up the plot of your story here.

2. What did you do?

How did you deal with the challenge? Perhaps you devised plans, assigned tasks, coordinated meetings, created a system, or mobilized a team to tackle the problem. Describe the process, step-by-step, of how you attacked the problem through to resolution. Remember, you are explaining and marketing your ability to solve problems.

3. What was the positive result?

Describe, as specifically as you can, the positive outcome of your actions. How did you save or make money for the company or department? What changed for the better as a result of your initiative? Did a difficult communication problem disappear after you got involved? Did you repair a big customer problem? The more you can point to specific, bottom-line results, the more convinced a hiring manager is that you are person for the job.

Another great place to incorporate storytelling is with your network. When your contacts have an opportunity to refer you to their contacts or even a potential hiring manager, they can tell your story. A memorable story shared with a new contact creates a place mark in their mind about you. That simple connection can help create a new relationship with someone influential in your career. We've all heard stories about the service provider who showed up and solved a huge problem at our homes or offices. It works the same way for job seekers. Your network is out praising your abilities to their contacts, and the connection is made.
